It boggles my mind why the vast majority of americans just don't care about hockey. It's not like hockey is some new thing down there. Four of the original six teams are from the US. It's got just about everything that you would think would appeal to your stereotypical American; it's exciting, fast and violent. What else do you want?

I'm not saying that if you don't watch hockey there's something wrong with you. I can understand why people don't like something I'm passionate about. I just don't know why the ratings are so piss poor in the US.

Uuum, excuse me? This year fucking blew as far as hitting goes due to the "New Look" NHL. It takes goons and fighting right out of the league and eventually it will be soccer on ice. That's part of the reason. Also Canadian teams seem to be doing better this year and we all know how American's hate Canada.

I always go with the underdog to win, I like seeing those. Although Carolina or Buffalo hasn't won anything in a long time either. Last cup I wanted Calgary, and now Edmonton. They always seem to be the less, how do I say this, money driven teams.

The reason i'm not cheering for the oilers is because I am going up for the Esks/Stamps football game on June 24th and if the Oil win the cup, that's all i'll ever hear from the fans up there. There is such a rivalry between the fans that I really can't cheer for them. Yes, I want a canadian team to win the cup, but then if the oil do, all i'll hear is Edmonton rules Calgary sucks etc. And since the esks won the grey cup last year, although I would say they would not have made it that far if they haden't done that shady deal with hamilton that allowed them to get hamiltons best players and keep jason mass around until the season was over, that makes it even worse.

Then when you see a few % of the idiots lighting fires in the middle of the street, smashing phone booths and windows, it makes you dislike them even more.

I don't like edmonton. We got kicked out of commonwealth stadium for waving the opposing teams flag in their building by 11 cops. Maybe they should spend time patrolling the LRT where a stamps fan was stabbed after the game instead.

Carolina vs Edmonton should be a great series. The 'canes have a few ex-Oilers on their roster...making it a bit bittersweet for me. I still really admire the way Doug Weight plays hockey and have always liked Ray Whitney.

That being said, I'd rather see Ryan Smyth hoist the Cup over Doug Weight any day of the week.
