I know Im Lutherian Prot., but Im pretty sure theres just basic Prots aswell.

Protestant I believe refers to the reformation of the roman catholic church. Basically those who believe in the principles of the catholic church, but believe the church as a whole has gone astray. Luther is one of the big reformation figures, but there are others as well. Calvin is probably the most recognizable outside of Luther. Both tried to reform the catholic church internally, but were kicked out as a result.
